- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add diced onion and cook until soft. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drain the grease.

- Stir in cream of mushroom soup, frozen vegetables, and sour cream (if using). Add a splash of milk or broth if the mixture seems too thick.
- Let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes to prevent soggy tots.
- Spread meat mixture into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Poke holes in the frozen tater tots and arrange them evenly on top.

- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes, until tots are golden and crispy. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
