Method
 

  1. Preheat the broiler.
  2. In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and beef broth, whisking well to dissolve. set aside.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Sauté for about 3 minutes, or until the vegetables soften.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spatula until browned and cooked through, about 3 more minutes. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  6. Pour in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, taco seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  7. Stir the cornstarch mixture again and add it to the skillet. Let the mixture simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  8. Scoop the beef mixture onto the hamburger buns. Top each with ¼ cup of shredded cheese. Place under the broiler for a couple of minutes, keeping a close watch to ensure the cheese melts without burning.
  9. Serve the Philly cheesesteak sloppy joes warm, paired with chips or your favorite side.
