For the Mushroom Gravy:
  • 16 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Sharp knife

Method

Prepare the Meat Patties
  1. Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, diced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and mustard powder in a large bowl.
  2. Mix gently until just combined - avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
  3. Shape mixture into 6-8 oval patties, about 1-inch thick.
  4. Create a slight dimple in the center of each patty to prevent shrinking.
Cook the Patties
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Transfer to a plate and cover with foil.
Make the Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, add butter and sauté mushrooms and onions until golden brown.
  2. Sprinkle flour over vegetables and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder.
  4. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Return patties to the skillet and cook for additional 5-7 minutes until heated through.
